Tea Stories: Meaning-making-machine🕊️👶🏽☕🫖🦋🐿️
It's such a quiet morning. This morning I have been contemplating the blessings in the shadows, the flaws, the inability, the stuckness, the pains. For it is in this realisation that humility and compassion is born. It is in this humility and compassion that love for Allah SWT is ignited. We are forgetful, hasty, meaning making machines.
42:51 'It is not vouchsafed for any human being that Allah swt should speak to him face to face; He speaks either through inspiration or from behind a veil; or through sending a messenger.'
We can choose to listen, observe, slow down and believe, that the one who created us is teaching us, telling us, inspiring us and guiding us; and it is all the time. The disconnect is from us. So the reconnection must also come from us. However we are, as my mother in law would say, a 'tahun' (bit angsty) creation. 💙
18:78 'He said, "This is the parting between thee and me. I shall inform thee of the meaning of that which though couldst not bear patiently:'
Khidr says to Prophet Moses pbuh that to attain wisdom one must be patient. To not throw away what's being taught because it does not immediately fit in with one's expectations and world view. Prophet Moses pbuh is unable to carry out this feat and hence loses the company of the most knowledgeable of creation. Perhaps we are the same. Seeing what fits with what we know. With what makes us comfortable. What if we were able to grind away and expand our psyche, our schemas, our narratives, what would it mean to open our minds and withhold judgement? 💚
21:37 'Man was created of haste. Soon shall I show you My signs; so seek not to hasten Me!'
Allah SWT reminds us of our haste. 'I prayed for X I want to see it come to fruition. I made the effort to do X I want to see it working. When will X happen. When will Y appear. When will they get their comeuppance.'
If I asked to be 'rich' and suddenly found myself so, I don't think I would be ready for it. We don't realise how slowly and with such stability we bumble through life and big changes have the ability to really throw us. So Allah SWT reassures us that what will come to us will come when is best for us. What if we really trusted and believed that? What if all we did was hasten the effort to create that and didn't 'hasten' the result.
59:19 'And be not like those who forgot Allah and so He made them oblivious of themselves.'
91:9-10 'Successful indeed is the one who purifies their soul, and doomed is the one who corrupts it!'
While we hasten the effort and chase the results we are shaping ourselves, our futures, our relationships and our thoughts. No matter what the pursuit often the greatest pursuit is the one where we discover our internal world whilst cultivating the outer world. If it all begins with us and comes from us then we need to ensure our internal compass 🧭 is scratch and condensation free. ❤️
13:28 'Such are the ones who believe (in the message of the Prophet) and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah.'
SubhanAllah 🌟 when the trials strike, and the gifts leave us elated, and life makes us busy and forgetful, and we get overly attached to things, and we generally make meaning out of things that doesn't necessarily serve us, come home. Be still. Coming down from 5th gear doesn't happen immediately. So give it time. Sit still for even for 10 minutes and do nothing. Allow Allah SWT to speak to you and just listen.
2:117 'He only says to it, "Be!" And it is.'
Believe. ❤️ Anything is possible. Even the things we've decided might never happen. Even the things we have tried and previously didn't work. Ask for the wisdom to exercise a new way of being. The patience to take on a new perspective. Ask for the divine enablement, the insight and the discernment to live life on sirat-ul-mustaqeem. 🎉
