27:9 'Oh Moses! It is truly I. I am God - the Almighty, All Wise. Now throw down your staff! But when he saw it slithering like a snake, he ran away without looking back. God reassured him. 'O Moses! Do not be afraid! Messengers should have no fear in my presence. Fear is only for those who do wrong. But if they later mend their evil ways with good then I am certainly All Forgiving, Most Merciful'

SubhanAllah!

When you read the text you can almost feel the tenderness and incredible humility with which God approaches Moses. Introducing Himself and his relevant characteristics. πŸ’š

When Moses is so frightened that he runs away he is given reassurance that he is a protected being. The verse that stands out so much for the rest of us is 'fear is only for those who do wrong'.

There is this activity that is really confronting to do and also is such a powerful purge and release. In our lives we wrong others all the time, intentionally or unintentionally. Sometimes we feel justified and other times we don't. 🀲🏽

So, the activity (not for the faint hearted) is to make a list of all the wrongs that we have committed. To explore what was at play when those things occurred. To then put right what went wrong.

Rules -

1. We take complete ownership over our own part in it. They have their own part and that's theirs to clear up. Show yourself some compassion and show them your remorse (real not pretend remorse). If there is a chance to make amends take it. If not then complete with one another in a way that leaves them feeling seen and heard.

2. If there is trauma involved and someone has explicitly told us never to communicate with them again, we do not breach that. In this case we can use something like the 'cord cutting mantra'.

3. The whole exercise is not an opportunity to self-flagellate. Rather it's to release fears anxieties and to learn and grow.

4. Return to God through prayer and Dhikr and allow yourself to be open to the guidance (which is everywhere).

So Allah SWT reminds us that some of our fear stems from our own ill actions and that repentance is a way of dissolving that fear and anxiety. πŸŒŸπŸ’«βœ¨

When we wrong others we wrong ourselves. God explicitly tells us so. πŸ’šπŸ’œπŸ’™πŸ©΅β€οΈπŸ©·
